VISITOR NOTICE

ALL VISITORS AND PARENTS must report to the office to sign in for a school visitor pass. This is to ensure safety, provide accountability, support students, and respect learning.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY NOTICE

For the safety and health of our students, the playground is now closed before and after school. There has been an increased number of unsupervised students on the playground at these times and the faculty and staff are not available for supervision during these hours. We ask that students leave campus immediately after school unless they are participating in a school sponsored after school event. Also, as posted on signs around campus, there is to be no riding of scooters, skateboards, hoverboards or bikes while on campus. Thank you for your cooperation.

JES Participates in 2016 KMR Speech Festival

Three Jefferson Elementary 5th grade students participated in the Chevron sponsored 2016 Honolulu Speech Festival at Kaimuki High School on Saturday, April 30th. Our brave students took part in reciting a challenging Dr. Suess skit. Please join us in congratulating our teacher, Ms. Sarah Kim and her outstanding students for being Jefferson Elementary School representatives and for their awesome performance!

Math Games Night

Jefferson Elementary held an amazing Math Games Night in our Library on April 15th! It was crowded with students and parents playing, learning, and enjoying all kinds of math games that our staff provided! Thanks so much to everyone for attending, It's always a pleasure to see our families at these events and we know that your children will always remember the fun they had!

Principal Zakahi Takes The Polar Plunge Again

The countdown started . . 10, 9, 8, 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. . . . I stepped into the plastic blue pool that has been filled with iced water (polar plunge) . . .  that was cold!  Counselor Ichiyama then poured 5 gallons of iced water over my head (ice bucket challenge) . . that was even cooler!  You might be asking yourself "why did I go through all of that trouble" . . well it was a promise that I made to you last year and a promise that I made to the students at the beginning of this school year.  The polar plunge was done as a result of more than 50% of our parents completing a School Quality Survey".  The ice bucket challenge was done because more than 1,000 terrific cards were redeemed in the firs quarter.  Princiapal Zakahi

Global Connections Trilingual Cultural Exchange Hosted by Jefferson

Jefferson Elementary was proud to host Global Connections: an inaugural multilingual enrichment program that was sponsored by the Hawaii Department of Education with support from the JTB Goodwill Foundation. The program will focus on the use of English, Japanese and Hawaiian during class time.

Students from Daikuy Elementry in Musashimurayama, Japan (Jefferson Elementary's sister school) were joined by students from Ali'iolani Elementary, Haha'ione Elementary, Lunalilo Elementary, Pū'ōhala Elemetary, Waiau Elementary and Jefferson Elementary. Together they went on cultural excursions, had the opportunity to try different foods from their respective cultures, and got hands on demonstrations on cultural arts and crafts.

The Global Connections enrichment program started on October 5th and culminated on October 10th with a hoike, or presentation, of a signature dish that the students learned how to prepare with Chef Tiffanie Matsutani at the Kapiolani Community College, University of Hawaii - Culinary Institute of the Pacific.

They were the winners of the ice pop SQS Parent Survey Party!! 100% of the parent survey's were returned!!

Ocean Science Night

Science Night was a success! Many hands helped to make the night a fun learning experience for our students and families. We are thankful that so many attended and were very engaged.
