ALL VISITORS AND PARENTS must report to the office to sign in for a school visitor pass. This is to ensure safety, provide accountability, support students, and respect learning.


For the safety and health of our students, the playground is now closed before and after school. There has been an increased number of unsupervised students on the playground at these times and the faculty and staff are not available for supervision during these hours. We ask that students leave campus immediately after school unless they are participating in a school sponsored after school event. Also, as posted on signs around campus, there is to be no riding of scooters, skateboards, hoverboards or bikes while on campus. Thank you for your cooperation.

Online Registration for Free and Reduced-Price Student Meals

Free and reduced-price meal applications for school year 2016 - 2017 are available online at EZMEALAPP.COM STARTING IN JULY.  (Before July, Hawaii is not an option on the website)You do not have to submit a paper application if an online application is submitted.


Hints to help you with online application:

  1. Student must be enrolled in a DOE school (excludes charter schools) for an application to be processed.
  2. Enter the legal names and the correct birthdates (this information is used to match students).
  3. Non-DOE (charter, private or college) students should be listed in the household only.
  4. For each adult enter:
    1. Gross earnings (before taxes and deductions) and
    2. how often the amount entered is received (do not use hourly wages)
  5. If applicable, enter the total income of all Child Household Members in STEP 4. If child has no income, leave STEP 4 blank.
  6. The electronic signature must be that of an adult in the household
  7. If applying with Hawaii SNAP or TANF case number:
    1. Select SNAP or TANF in STEP 1 under Benefit Type and enter authorized case number and name of recipient
    2. After listing the students in STEP 2, the application will skip to STEP 5: Electronic Signature. Adult must sign.
    3. If error message "The Electronic Signature does not match what was entered..." appears, delete and retype the signature making sure that there are no extra blank spaces at the beginning and/or end of the first and last names.
  8. A confirmation number appears when the application is submitted. Write down this number for future reference.
  9. Once the application is processed (up to 10 working days), the school will send home a results letter with your student.

Breakfast and Lunch Pricing Effective 5/26/2015

Jefferson Elementary will no longer make unlimited “lunch loans” (whether for breakfast or lunch) to students who do not have funds in their meal accounts.

The maximum loan amount will be as follows:

Maximum Loan
For students eligible for free meals No Loan
For students eligible for reduced price meals $2.00
For students who pay the regular student price for meals $12.50


Jefferson Elementary School kindly asks that parents deposit a minimum of $25 in your child's account.

If there are no funds in your child’s meal account, and the “lunch loan” maximum amount has been reached, you should send your child to school with a home lunch. This will take effect and be enforced beginning on Monday, 6 February 2011.
We also want to take this opportunity to remind you that meal prices are currently set at the following:

Student price $1.10
Reduced student price $0.30
Student price – second meal $2.40
Adult price $2.40


Student price $2.50
Reduced student price $0.40
Student price – second meal $5.50
Adult price $5.50


As a reminder, free lunch students are still required to clear any outstanding balances they accrued prior to obtaining free lunch status.

Box Tops for Education

Please remember to turn in your Box Tops for Education to your homeroom teachers. Each Box Top will help our school in various ways, so look for the labels on most General Mills products. Mahalo!





Jefferson Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is proud to sponsor the Watch D.O.G.S. Program. If you see dads on school grounds wearing T-Shirts with paw prints and full of energy to help the teachers, then you have seen the program in action! Watch D.O.G.S. is a nationwide program that encourages dads to be positive role models by volunteering time at their children's schools. In January, the dads came and helped out in their children's classes at Jefferson Elementary. It was great fun! Reminding All Parents of Visitor Policy

As part of the Department of Education’s security and safety policy, ALL VISITORS/PARENTS must report to the office to sign in for a school visitor pass.
After 8:00 a.m. parents/visitors must leave the campus promptly. Volunteers and scheduled visitors must report to the office to sign in for a school visitor pass.

Parents wishing to pick up children after school must remain in designated waiting areas. Waiting areas are:

  • Jefferson Annex courtyard (old Orthopedic Unit office)
  • Along the Library, in front of the Main Office, and in parking lots

To minimize classroom distractions and interruption to instruction, parents are asked not to “drop in” on their child’s classroom. A class may be in various locations on campus, taking a test, or in the middle of a teacher-directed lesson.

Please stop at the office if there is anything that needs to be delivered to your child. The office will have the item(s) delivered for you.

If you wish to visit your child’s class, please make prior arrangements with his/her teacher or through the office.

For safety reasons teachers are not allowed to release a child from the classroom without the official release form from the office. Parents will report to the office to sign for their child’s release form. Parents will then take the form to their child’s classroom to pick up their child after showing the release form to the teacher. Students will only be released to parent or guardian if prior arrangements have been made with the office.
