VISITOR NOTICE

ALL VISITORS AND PARENTS must report to the office to sign in for a school visitor pass. This is to ensure safety, provide accountability, support students, and respect learning.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY NOTICE

For the safety and health of our students, the playground is now closed before and after school. There has been an increased number of unsupervised students on the playground at these times and the faculty and staff are not available for supervision during these hours. We ask that students leave campus immediately after school unless they are participating in a school sponsored after school event. Also, as posted on signs around campus, there is to be no riding of scooters, skateboards, hoverboards or bikes while on campus. Thank you for your cooperation.

SY 2016-2017 Year End Reflection

Aloha Everyone! Can you believe that it is the last day of school for our students? There were many, many wonderful events that took place this year. These events, include, but were not limited to: . . . a 62 point increase in our STRIVE HI index, our TEAM picture that was taken on the first administrative day, family events (BINGO, pasta, movie night, Math games night, Ocean Science night, 2 Ohana days, May Day), new partnerships (Hawaii Lodging and Tourism, JTB, Toridoll, Hawaii 3Rs, First Hawaiian Bank, Jade Painting, HPD - DARE program, ), Cat in the Hat day, first time participants in the Honolulu District Science Fair, Math meet, speech festivals, events involving the media (tsunami awareness, hand-made udon experience, articles on the DOE website, articles in the Star Advertiser and MidWeek, 21st century Learning Centers I and II, fitness meet, bike education, field trips, project-based learning opportunity focused on student learning. These events aligned with our schools vision and mission to support the "whole child". This year also provided us with an opportunity to think about who we are and what we stand for. Our TEAM came up with a brand that states "our family . . . our culture . . . . our land". We are all about family, or ohana and work as one to support student learning. The culture of our school is one that cannot be put into words, it must be internalized and felt. People who visit our campus have experienced our culture and our culture remains inside of them . .well after they have left our campus. Our land allows us to take classroom learning outside. Our land provides us with the many fruits and vegetables that are harvested on a regular basis. I would like to thank each of you for your countless hours that were spent preparing, carrying out, correcting, reflecting, revising, researching, and meeting/planing so that our students could be provided with opportunities to learn. The work that you do is noticed and your work does make a positive difference in the lives of our students. I would like to those of you who will be leaving Jefferson and want you to know that you will always be a part of our TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More). Everyone contributes to the success of our school and when individuals leave, they take with them something that may not be able to be replaced. Best of luck as you continue your careers. You will be missed! I would like to close, by providing you with 3 wishes: I wish for you to relax, rejuvenate, reflect and read, I wish for you to spend time with your family and friends and reconnect with people that you have not seen/talked to for a while. I wish you good luck, good health, and good fortune. Mahalo for "doing what you do". You are all appreciated! -- Garret Zakahi President Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Principal "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much" - Helen Keller
