Established in 1933, Jefferson Elementary School (JES) occupies approximately 15 acres of beautiful real estate in Waikiki. Its facilities include regular education and special education classrooms along with a district Autism School. Approximately 345 students attend Jefferson, with a large population coming from twenty-three different countries. Jefferson’s Primary School Adjustment Program (PSAP) has received national certification from the Children’s Institute in Rochester, New York. Jefferson is one of only 13 schools statewide that have received such certification.

The hard working teachers of Jefferson Elementary continuously implement our McGraw Hill Reading Wonders Program, Origo Stepping Stones Math Program, and Harcourt Science Program. Students are guided to achieve proficiency in the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards (HCPS III) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The school also incorporates various learning opportunities into the intervention block, using such resources as Clever i-Ready and Mystery Science. Teachers have received training in differentiated learning strategies, response to intervention strategies.

Students at Jefferson are able to receive additional instruction in STEM Education, Physical Education, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Hawaiian Studies, and Computer Science. These opportunities allow our students to experience a range of educational experiences in our hope to provide a more well rounded academic experience.

Jefferson is happy to be home to two classes from the Honolulu Community Action Program and Head Start Program. The HCAP Head Start Program is a federally funded program that provides quality services to qualifying preschoolers and their families.

We have our own A+ After School Program here at Jefferson. The Extended Learning Opportunity program is funded through the 21st Century Learning Center grant.

The school has a very active School Community Council (SCC) with a focus on student welfare and achievement. The SCC is a major part of the overall leadership structure at Jefferson. Members are elected by their peers to advise the principal on specific matters that affect student achievement and school improvement. Their primary role is to participate in the process that ensures that the needs of all students are specifically addressed in the overall education plan for the school.

The Academic and Financial Plan is a document that highlights the goals for the school, the programs, and the available resources to reach these goals. To learn more about our school, visit this link below.
